GASTRIC BALLON
A gastric balloon, also known as an intragastric balloon, is a non-surgical weight loss procedure designed to help individuals lose weight by reducing their stomach’s capacity to hold food.
This procedure is usually considered for people who are overweight or obese and have struggled with other weight loss methods.

Here's an overview of how the gastric balloon procedure works
Placement of the Balloon
The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis and doesn’t require general anesthesia. Instead, sedation or local anesthesia may be used. A deflated balloon is inserted into the stomach through the mouth and esophagus. Once inside the stomach, the balloon is filled with either saline solution or air.
Inflation of the Balloon
The inflation of the balloon takes up space in the stomach, reducing its capacity to hold food. This leads to a feeling of fullness and early satiety, which helps control portion sizes and calorie intake.
Monitoring and Support
After the balloon is inflated, patients are closely monitored by medical professionals to ensure their safety and adjust to the changes in their eating habits. Patients typically receive nutritional counseling and guidance on making healthier food choices to maximize the benefits of the procedure.
Removal of the Balloon
The gastric balloon is usually left in place for a predetermined period, often around 6 months. After this period, the balloon is removed using a similar procedure to its placement. The balloon is deflated before removal.
